Medical Malpractice Insurance

Professional liability for physicians, nurse practitioners, PAs, therapists, and allied health providers.

Who Needs It

  • Physicians and surgeons
  • Nurse practitioners and physician assistants
  • Med spa providers and aestheticians
  • Therapists and allied health

What It Covers

  • Claims of injury from professional services
  • Defense costs and licensing-board defense
  • Occurrence or claims-made with tail options
  • Locum tenens and moonlighting where endorsed

What It Does Not Cover

  • Sexual misconduct where excluded
  • Procedures outside training or scope
  • Criminal acts
  • Prior acts before the retroactive date

Texas Notes

Texas caps non-economic damages at $250K per defendant, which keeps the market stable; scope of procedures and provider count drive pricing.

Florida Notes

Florida physicians must meet financial-responsibility requirements under Fla. Stat. §458.320; many go bare, but hospitals and groups require coverage.

Medical Malpractice Insurance Questions We Hear Most

What is tail coverage?

An extended reporting endorsement that covers claims reported after a claims-made policy ends. Needed when you retire, move carriers, or leave a group.

Does a prior claim mean I can't get coverage?

Rarely. Carriers price and underwrite on frequency and severity over three to five years. One closed claim usually narrows the market slightly; a pattern narrows it a lot. Tell us everything up front; an undisclosed claim found at binding is worse than a disclosed one.
