Texas Notes
Texas tort reform caps non-economic damages in medical malpractice, which keeps rates comparatively stable; carriers still underwrite procedures and provider count closely.
Florida Notes
Florida's malpractice market is harder; many physicians go bare or self-insure under Fla. Stat. §458.320 financial-responsibility rules. Cyber is critical: health care is the top ransomware target.
Health Care & Medical Practice Insurance Questions We Hear Most
Occurrence or claims-made?
Occurrence covers incidents during the policy period regardless of when reported. Claims-made requires the claim during the period and needs tail coverage when you leave; it is cheaper early and standard in medical malpractice.
Does a prior claim mean I can't get coverage?
Rarely. Carriers price and underwrite on frequency and severity over three to five years. One closed claim usually narrows the market slightly; a pattern narrows it a lot. Tell us everything up front; an undisclosed claim found at binding is worse than a disclosed one.
