How Wirehaired Trust Is Paid
Independent means we work for you, not a carrier. It also means you should know exactly how we earn money when we place your coverage.
Effective date: September 17, 2026. Pointer Insurance Agency, LLC, doing business as Wirehaired Trust (“Wirehaired Trust,” “we,” “us”). Licensed independent property & casualty insurance agency in Texas and Florida. Houston, Texas · info@pointeriaus.com · (281) 671-0069.
1. Commission from carriers
For most policies we place, the insurance carrier pays us a commission calculated as a percentage of the premium. The percentage varies by carrier, line of business, and whether the policy is new or renewing; it typically ranges from single digits on some commercial lines to the mid-teens on others. Commission is included in the premium you pay; it is not an additional charge. Commission is fully earned when coverage is bound, and on mid-term cancellation the carrier, not we, calculates any premium refund due to you.
2. Contingent and supplemental compensation
Some carriers pay us additional compensation based on the overall performance of the business we place with them across all clients: for example, total premium volume, growth, retention, or loss ratio. Because these payments depend on an entire book of business, they cannot be attributed to any single policy and are not known at the time your coverage is placed. They may create an incentive to place business with a carrier that pays them. We manage that incentive by recommending carriers based on coverage, price, service, and financial strength, and by disclosing this arrangement here. Ask us and we will tell you whether a carrier we recommend has such an arrangement with us.
3. Wholesale and surplus-lines placements
When a risk is placed through a wholesale broker or managing general agent, that intermediary is also compensated, usually by a share of the commission or a fee shown on the invoice. Surplus-lines placements carry state premium tax and stamping fees, which are pass-through charges collected for the state and shown separately on your invoice.
4. Agency fees
In limited cases, such as risks with very low premium or unusual servicing needs, we may charge you a service fee in addition to or instead of commission. Any fee will be disclosed to you in writing, with the amount and what it covers, before you incur it, as Texas and Florida law require. Fees are not refundable once the service is performed.
5. Premium financing
If you finance your premium, the premium finance company charges you interest and fees under its own agreement. We may receive a nominal administrative payment from a finance company for arranging the financing. You are never required to use a finance company we suggest.
6. What we do not receive
We do not receive compensation for referring you to any inspection, loss-control, payroll, HR, or claims-adjusting vendor. We do not sell or share your information for compensation. We do not hold client premium in trust except as required in the ordinary course of remitting it to carriers, and any interest on such funds is de minimis and handled as state law requires.
7. Ask us
At any time, and at no charge, you may ask us in writing what compensation we expect to receive on your account, from whom, and how it is calculated. We will answer within ten (10) business days. Email info@pointeriaus.com with “Compensation inquiry” in the subject line.
