Business Owners Policy (BOP)
A packaged policy combining general liability, property, and business income for small and mid-size businesses that fit carrier eligibility.
Who Needs It
- Offices, retail, restaurants without heavy liquor, light service businesses
- Businesses under carrier thresholds (revenue, square footage, class)
What It Covers
- General liability
- Building and business personal property
- Business income and extra expense (often actual loss sustained for 12 months)
- Equipment breakdown, data, and cyber add-ons at low cost
- Hired and non-owned auto endorsement available
What It Does Not Cover
- Workers' comp and commercial auto (separate)
- Professional liability
- Contractors above eligibility, roofing, trucking, and most manufacturing
- Flood
Texas Notes
Efficient for Texas offices and retail; wind/hail deductible still applies as a percentage on the property section.
Florida Notes
Available but wind capacity for coastal Florida BOPs is limited; some carriers exclude wind or require a separate wind policy.
Business Owners Policy (BOP) Questions We Hear Most
Is a BOP cheaper than separate policies?
Usually, because the carrier packages standard coverages for low-hazard classes. If you don't fit eligibility, separate policies are the only option.
Can a contractor get a BOP?
Small artisan trades sometimes; general contractors, roofers, and anyone doing structural work generally cannot.
