Artisan Trade Insurance (Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC)
GL, comp, auto, and tools coverage for licensed service and installation trades.
Who Needs It
- Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC contractors
- Low-voltage, solar, and generator installers
- Service-and-repair and new-construction crews
What It Covers
- GL with completed-operations coverage for installed systems
- Workers' comp
- Commercial auto and HNOA
- Inland marine for tools and installed equipment in transit
- Pollution liability for refrigerants and fuels (add-on)
What It Does Not Cover
- Faulty workmanship redo cost
- Professional design liability without contractors' E&O
- Work on new residential tracts where excluded
- Fire damage from hot work without the endorsement
Texas Notes
TDLR licensing does not require insurance, but nearly every GC and property manager does. New-residential exclusions are common on cheap artisan forms.
Florida Notes
Licensing requires GL and comp proof; Florida's construction-defect statute (Ch. 558) drives completed-operations claims years after the work.
Artisan Trade Insurance (Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC) Questions We Hear Most
Does GL cover a fire caused by my electrical work?
Yes, third-party property damage from your operations or completed work is the core of GL, subject to the form's exclusions. Confirm no 'electrical work' or 'new residential' exclusion is attached.
Does a prior claim mean I can't get coverage?
Rarely. Carriers price and underwrite on frequency and severity over three to five years. One closed claim usually narrows the market slightly; a pattern narrows it a lot. Tell us everything up front; an undisclosed claim found at binding is worse than a disclosed one.
